Leaked benchmarks point to two new “+” SKUs from AMD’s Strix Halo lineup: the 8-core Ryzen AI Max+ 388 and the 12-core Max+ 392. Both reportedly deliver the same full 40-CU Radeon 8060S GPU used in the flagship 16-core model, offering serious gaming chops in more accessible configurations.
All AMD Ryzen 300 series APUs are excellent. The Strix Halo series has proven to be highly commendable on its own. Recently, several handheld gaming PCs, gaming mini PCs, or, you could say, mini AI workstations have been launched with the AMD Ryzen AI Max+ Pro 395 APU, which includes the Radeon RX 8060S iGPU, whose performance is comparable to the NVIDIA RTX 4070 L. The Bosgame M5 AI Mini PC, the Minisforum MS-S1 MAX AI Mini PC, and the GEEKOM A9 Mega are all capturing the market exceptionally well.
Let’s find out the difference between AMD Ryzen AI Max+ 392 and AMD Ryzen AI Max+ 388. For instance, the flagship Ryzen AI Max+ 395 comes with 16 cores and 32 threads, and it features AMD Radeon 8060S Graphics with 40 compute units. Similarly, the same iGPU will be present in both of these chips, which is a very good thing.

The Ryzen AI MAX 385 offers you 8 cores and 16 threads, but in graphics, you get the Radeon 8050S iGPU. This chip is a better choice for handheld gaming PCs. However, if we recently look at the Ryzen AI MAX+ 388 on PassMark, you get Radeon 8060S graphics with 40 compute units, making this chip a perfect choice for gaming. On the other hand, the Ryzen AI MAX+ 392 gives you 12 cores and 24 threads, along with Radeon 8060S graphics with 40 compute units, meaning this chip provides CPU performance close to the Ryzen AI MAX+ 395.
In the AMD Ryzen 300 series, the MAX branding with a plus (+) simply means that the chip comes with AMD Radeon 8060S Graphics with 40 compute units, which is why the plus (+) is added to the name.
A Ryzen AI MAX+ 388 has been seen on Passmark in a 14-inch tablet, also with 24 GB RAM, with the chip’s base clock at 3.60 GHz.
AMD Ryzen AI Max+ 392:
12 cores, 24 threads, Turbo Boost 5.0 GHz, 76 MB Level 3 Cache. If we talk about GPU, then this chip comes with AMD Radeon 8060S Graphics & 40 Compute Units with 50 TOPs NPU.
AMD Ryzen AI Max+ 388:
8 Cores, 16 Threads, Turbo Boost 5.0 GHz, 40 MB Level 3 Cache. If we talk about the GPU, then this chip comes with AMD Radeon 8060S Graphics & 40 Compute Units with 50 TOPs NPU.
